In 1992 I took the (AMTRAK-)train from New York to Chicago, where I stayed with some friends (that I had met on the train) for a week.I bought a car (Ford Escort, 1600$, reliable) in Des Moines, Iowa, after discovering that itīs almost impossible to hitchhike (I started 50 miles west of Chicago and got as far as Des Moines). I sold the car in Washington(DC) for 300$, after driving 24.000 miles.
In 1993 I worked in a camp in New Jersey (near Long Branch) for 11 weeks, after completing the job I bought an AMTRAK round-trip ticket including three stopovers: New Orleans, LA, Frisco. From LA I took the (TWA-)plane to Honolulu (Hawaii). I visited Oahu, Maui, Hawaii (Big Island), spending a week on each of them. On the islands I used rental cars, Hostel-organized tours (GREAT!!!) and on Oahu busses (60 cent, wherever you go).
In 1996/97 I decided it would become a boring Christmas on 23 December,1996, and was on a plane to Miami the following day. I returned to University on 6 January, 1997. The New Year's party at 'Pleasure Island', Disney (Orlando), was very expensive (102$) but in contrast to the theme parks well worth the money.
